District 1 opened on 22 October 2002 as the first phase of Yiwu International Trade City. It has more than 10,000 stalls and over 10,500 registered operators concentrated in one place — the largest cluster of toy suppliers anywhere in the world.
About 90% of stalls here take export business and over 60% of the goods leave China, so the district is set up for international buyers: most suppliers speak basic English, work with samples, and quote in USD or RMB the moment you show them a product photo.

A Yiwu stall address is built like a coordinate: District + Gate + Floor + Street + Stall number. A typical one looks like “D1 · Gate 12 · 2F · Street 4 · Stall 12345”. Ask any supplier for their booth number (商位号) and you can navigate to them exactly with the map at every entrance.
